READING: Star Reader reports and Extension Packets will be given on Mondays and your child chooses 3-4 books for the week (if no school on Monday, then Tuesday for each night except for Fridays). Your child is expected to read every night and have their report signed by a parent. Your child should also read over the weekends. Extension Packets should also be completed throughout the week, and signed by a parent by Friday. Reading Reports and Extension Packets work will be checked on Friday by the teacher or paraprofessional. This will impact their reading grade on the report card. Please check and sign your child’s extension work every night and sign the Extension Packet on the front page. MATH: Students will receive various math homework throughout the week based on our current unit of study. Please check that your child's math homework is completed on both sides and neat. This will impact their math grade on the report card. I expect all extension work to be done at home and in a timely manner.
Uniform Policy
Clinton Avenue School is a uniform school. Your child is expected to come to school every day with their uniform on. The school colors are blue and white. Students are required to wear a navy blue, light blue or white polo shirt with navy blue bottoms. Students may wear navy sweatpants on Tuesday and Thursday for Physical Education, and must wear sneakers to participate! Please refer to the parent handbook for the Dress Code Policy.
Behavior Policy
P.R.I.D.E. - Good behavior is always expected in school. At Clinton Avenue, students are expected to show P.R.I.D.E. every day. Students should be prepared for the day, respectful to their peers and teachers, work independently, be dependable, and always be engaged in the lesson and activities in school.
COLOR CHART - My goal for this class is to help each student socialize well with his/her peers and achieve academic success. This includes teaching about respect for others, tolerance, sharing, following directions, listening, and working quietly and collaboratively. We will use a “Color Chart” Behavior Plan.
The students will each have 7 color cards. Each student will start the day on the green card. They are able to move back and forth on the behavior chart depending on their daily behavior and if they make good choices! Students can move up to blue, then purple, then pink. Students can also move down to yellow, then orange, then red. I constantly remind my students that they are in charge of their choices and, ultimately, what color they end their day on.
If your child is moved to pink, they will visit the Classroom Prize Box and recognized by me at dismissal time, because it is a big deal if your first grader is showing their Cougar Pride!! If your child is moved to red you will be contacted and I will write a report in our school behavior system, Review 360. You may receive this report in your child’s communication folder, or verbally over the phone/in a meeting.
Positive behavior and positive colors on the behavior chart will earn your child Cougar Cash for fun and educational incentives!
